How do lasers remove hair?

Without damaging the surrounding skin, the laser light passes down to the hair follicle where it is absorbed by the hair. Each laser pulse heats a large number of hair follicles and ultimately destroys their potential for hair growth. Hair may sometimes be ejected during the laser treatment but usually it is shed over the following week. The laser treatment safely eliminates hundreds of hair follicles instantly - leaving your skin silky smooth! No more electrolysis, waxing, shaving, or plucking!

Treatment by fully Registered Nurses

At BodyLaser Clinics laser hair removal treatment is performed by fully Registered Nurses. Treatment results depend not only on the type of laser but also on the knowledge, training, judgement and skill of the operator. Each member of our nursing team has been fully trained in medical and surgical care at major hospitals. In addition to their hospital experience each nurse has undergone extensive additional training in the use of lasers. They perform hundreds of laser treatments every year. You can be sure you are in safe hands. Laser treatment is performed in a dedicated laser clinic, not a massage parlour. We do not employ beauty therapists or dental nurses to perform skin laser treatments.

Is it permanent hair removal?

Laser hair removal has been extensively studied for the past 15 years. Treatments with certain high quality lasers have shown results that have lasted many years. BodyLaser Clinic only uses lasers that have been clinically proven to give results and have also been approved by the FDA; the United States Food and Drug Administration.

A word of caution: Do not be mislead - some establishments advertising 'Laser Hair Removal' do not have a hair removal laser. Ask them to confirm they perform hair removal with a laser if they advertise 'Laser hair removal'.

How many laser treatment sessions are needed?

Hair grows in cycles. Clinical research has shown that hairs that are growing at the time of treatment are more affected by laser light than hair that is not in the growing phase. A course of treatment is needed to eventually catch all hairs in the growing phase. Whilst personal preferences may vary, the average number of treatments required for good clearance is six (women who suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) may require several more treatments). During each session we treat the whole area. The interval between appointments will depend on the body area but is typically 4 to 8 weeks apart. You will usually see a reduction in the amount of hair after each treatment session.

What other hair removal options are there?

Waxing and hair removal creams are used for the temporary removal of body hair. Shaving, plucking, and threading also give temporary results. Only laser hair removal and electrolysis treatments give long lasting results. With Electrolysis treatment an electric current is applied with a fine needle-shaped electrode, or metal probe into each hair follicle to destroy the root. Electrolysis is a slow process which is suitable only for small areas of treatment. By delivering laser energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time our lasers effectively treat an area in just seconds which might otherwise take an hour with Electrolysis.
